Dara Rashid, Planning Minister.
The Kurdistan Regional Government's Minister of Planning, Dara Rashid, confirmed today, Wednesday, that the population census is of great significance for both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
In a press conference, the Planning Minister stated: "The census process is crucial for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and the data we receive from it will be both important and precise." He added that "those registered on the 20th and 21st will be residents of their original areas, and we are collaborating with the Kurdistan Statistics Office to ensure the success of the general population census."
Minister Rashid expressed his gratitude to "the Federal Ministry of Planning and the Statistics Office for resolving all the technical issues that had arisen during the census process," and assured that "any areas affected by technical failures in the past few days will be addressed on the 20th and 21st. Following the intervention of the Governor of Kirkuk yesterday, the issue for citizens there has been resolved."
He continued: "The significance of the general census lies in determining the population of the Kurdistan Region, which directly impacts the allocation of the Region’s share of the budget and other entitlements."
He also noted that the census is vital for determining the number of parliamentary seats for the Kurds in Iraq, and the data gathered will be used accurately in the future for reconstruction and development.
