An advisor to the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) disclosed that the key topics to be discussed during the meeting between President Bafel and the Iraqi Prime Minister include the elections, the formation of the new cabinet, the census in Iraq, as well as the budget and salaries for the people of the Kurdistan Region. Additionally, the further strengthening of PUK relations is on the agenda. "The PUK has its own plan as a significant political force in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region," he stated.
The PUK is a Significant Political Force in Iraq
Bestun Fayaq, Advisor to the President of the PUK, told PUKMEDIA that the Iraqi Prime Minister's visit to Sulaymaniyah is a significant political visit. During his visit, he will meet with PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani. They are expected to discuss a range of important issues, including salaries, the budget, the general census, the results of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, and the formation of the new government.
"Another matter that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani is expected to discuss with President Bafel is his re-election for the position of Prime Minister," he said.
"It is clear that the PUK is a significant force in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and even the wider region, and in this context, the support of the PUK is vital for the Iraqi Prime Minister," Fayaq added.
The PUK has a Plan for the Next Government
The PUK President's advisor on the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the PUK's participation stated: "Certainly, the PUK has its own plan for the next government of the Kurdistan Region. As we stand on the edge of forming a new government, the PUK aims to establish a government that serves the people. The PUK is focused on the welfare of citizens and is also committed to addressing the division and discrimination between regions.
He further said: "The promises made by President Bafel to the Kurdish people during the election campaign are central to the PUK's agenda for the next government and will be fully implemented."
Nationalisation Will Protect the Rights of Employees
Regarding the position of the PUK and the emphasis on implementing Nationalisation (Tawtin), Bestun Fayaq stated that "the PUK President does not want the rights of salary earners to be taken away under the guise of 'My Account' once again." He added that "as in the past, the salaried employees of the Region have been deprived of their rights under the pretext of savings, deductions, and various other justifications."
Iraqi Prime Minister al-Sudani arrived in Erbil on Wednesday, where he was welcomed by several KRG officials. He is scheduled to visit Sulaymaniyah later this afternoon to meet with PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani.
