Saadi Ahmed Pire, the Spokesperson for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), emphasised the critical importance of the general population census, particularly in Kirkuk Governorate. He called on all citizens from the disputed areas, regardless of where they are currently living, to return to their original cities and participate in the census.

During a press conference covered by PUKMEDIA, Saadi Ahmed Pire stated: "The general population census is extremely important, and we believe it should have been conducted only after the full implementation of Article 140 and the normalisation of the situation in the disputed areas so that we could carry out a proper and accurate census."

He further clarified: "This census is not a partisan matter; it is a national issue that concerns all of us. It is essential for every citizen to participate and return to their original areas to take part in the process."

He added: "The census will play a key role in determining the future of the disputed areas. Therefore, the Kurdistan Regional Government must support citizens who wish to return to their homes in order to participate in the census."

Pire urged citizens not to leave the fate of the disputed areas to chance, stressing the importance of returning to their original areas and taking part in the census. He also called on all Kurdish parties to encourage citizens to do so.

He explained that the census is a significant matter for the Kurds in the disputed areas, as it will influence both the administrative and political landscape. "The presence of Kurdish citizens in these areas will demonstrate their importance," he stated.

The PUK spokesperson concluded by saying: "The people of Kirkuk and the Kurdish regions have a crucial national responsibility. By participating in the general population census on November 20, 2024, they will play a decisive role."
