Kurdistan Region's Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met separately with US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski and German Consul General in the Kurdistan Region Albrecht von Wittke in Erbil on Monday, November 4, 2024.

Both meetings focused on the situation in the Kurdistan Region after the elections and the mechanisms for forming a new government.

 

DPM Talabani: PUK has its own vision for government formation

In the meeting with the US Ambassador, attended by US Consul in the Kurdistan Region Steven Bitner and Undersecretary of the Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Natural Resources Ahmed Mufti, they deliberated on the post-election situation in the Kurdistan Region and the processes for establishing a new government.

DPM Talabani articulated that the PUK has its own vision for forming the government and is open to all parties aligned with that vision during the process.

The parties concurred on the significance of establishing the Kurdistan Regional Government and expediting the process while preventing any undesirable regional occurrences. DPM Talabani emphasised that the PUK is endeavouring to create a national government accountable to the Kurdish people, operating fairly and in a balanced fashion based on genuine partnership.

Concerning the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, as well as regional crises, they emphasised the need for adherence to the constitution and collaborative efforts to mitigate tensions and resolve disputes through dialogue and based on shared interests.

In his meeting with the German Consul General, DPM Talabani articulated that the PUK has a reformist plan and vision for forming the government, welcoming all parties aligned with that vision and willing to collaborate.

The parties concurred on the significance of establishing the Kurdistan Regional Government, expediting the process, and safeguarding the status of the Kurdistan Region.

During another part of the meeting, DPM Talabani wished success to the new German Consul and reiterated his support for his endeavours. 

The German Consul General emphasised Germany's ongoing support for the Kurdistan Region and underscored the necessity of collaboration to prevent and tackle shared threats.
