Bafel Jalal Talabani, the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), is committed to meeting the aspirations of university and institute students and is focused on enhancing the educational process.
President Bafel Jalal Talabani’s Commitment to Education
PUK President is focused on enhancing the educational process by renovating and reconstructing student accommodations, classrooms, and scientific laboratories. Additionally, efforts are being made to provide monthly allowances for students to support their educational journeys.
New Budget Allocation
Dr. Bakhtiar Obaid Sharif, Assistant President of the Polytechnic University of Sulaymaniyah for Student Affairs, informed PUKMEDIA that President Talabani allocated a special budget last year specifically for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of student accommodations in all universities and institutes. Since the government has not provided adequate funding for these initiatives, President Bafel has thankfully set aside a new budget for the current academic year to further support students by improving living conditions in their accommodations.
Ongoing Support for Students
Dr. Bakhtiar explained that President Talabani continues to offer substantial support to students, with a dedicated team managing the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts at the expense of the PUK. The allocated budget for these initiatives ranges from 200 to 250 million dinars, covering the refurbishment of student accommodations and some classrooms. All necessary work in these areas has now been completed.
Engagement with Student Representatives
Last year, President Talabani met with university student representatives in Sulaymaniyah to discuss their conditions and concerns. The meeting provided an opportunity to evaluate projects implemented within the student accommodations funded by the PUK. It was decided to initiate additional scientific projects aimed at enhancing the educational standards of universities and generating job opportunities for graduates.
President Bafel emphasised his commitment to following up on previous decisions related to student accommodations and was reassured of their successful implementation based on feedback from 115 student representatives. He presented his vision for the development of universities, proposing various scientific initiatives, including international conferences and job fairs, to better prepare students for the future.
