PUK Official: PUK Wants Transparent Elections in Peaceful Atmosphere

On Monday, October 14, 2024, Dara Khaylani, a member of the Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Head of the PUK's Foreign Relations, received Kim Yong Jae, Deputy Head of the South Korean Mission to Iraq, at the PUK Political Bureau building in Erbil.
The parties deliberated on the political situation in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the broader region. The preparations for the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 20, 2024, were also discussed.
Khaylani presented PUK's perspectives concerning political prospects and developments to the visiting delegation. He stated: "The PUK, fully committed to the ideas of democracy and change, seeks to conduct transparent elections in a peaceful and stable environment. We request the international community, including South Korean diplomats in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, to monitor the electoral process."
The Deputy Head of the South Korean Mission to Iraq expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and said that Seoul attaches great importance to the situation in the region in general and the Kurdistan Region in particular.
He stated, "We are observing the elections with keen interest, hoping that they will transform the political landscape and the future of the Kurdistan Region towards enhanced reconstruction and advancement in all sectors."
