The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) prevented hundreds of PUK supporters from participating in the 6th campaign rally of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) List 129. A member of the PUK Leadership Council asserted that these small obstacles will not stop the PUK.
Ghayas Surchi, Head of the Media Department of PUK's Nineveh headquarters, told PUKMEDIA: "Through the checkpoints surrounding Duhok, the KDP is preventing PUK supporters from participating in the PUK 129's campaign rally in Duhok province."
"The KDP blocked hundreds of vehicles belonging to PUK supporters at the Badrik checkpoint, intentionally delaying them for several hours under the pretext of inspection, solely to prevent their participation in the rally," he stated.
The spokesman of the PUK headquarters in Nineveh said: "The KDP security checkpoints around Duhok only stop vehicles carrying the PUK flag and campaigning for the PUK, while allowing vehicles of citizens who are not even from the Kurdistan Region and want to enter Duhok."
The 6th campaign rally of the PUK 129 began shortly before in Duhok where PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani will deliver a speech to the people of Kurdistan Region.
The sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2024. The PUK is contesting with PUK List 129 and 172 candidates under the slogans "Correcting the Course of Governance" and "We Will End It."
PUK Official: PUK is the Only Force Capable of Ending Oppression in Duhok
The negative actions of an authoritarian wing within the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) have disrupted the tranquility of the residents of Duhok Province. A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's (PUK) Leadership Council asserts that Duhok has transformed into a significant military checkpoint for a neighbouring country as a result of poor policies.
Latif Nerwayi, a member of the PUK Leadership Council, informed PUKMEDIA: "The residents of Duhok are constantly anxious and considered as refugees due to the detrimental actions of an authoritarian wing within the KDP, which clearly contradicts the slogans proclaimed during their electoral campaign."
"The esteemed citizens of Duhok require peace, service, liberty, justice, and equality. However, the province has now transformed into a major military checkpoint for a neighbouring country, conducting military parades inside. Furthermore, a force established by the KDP known as the Roj Force has emerged as a threat to the citizens, instituting checkpoints and imposing fees on individuals," he added.
Nerwayi finally said: "The lives and tranquility of the residents of Duhok province deteriorate annually due to the negative policies of a wing of the KDP, while the people of Duhok place their hope in the PUK, perceiving it as the only force capable of rectifying instability, injustice, oppression, and discrimination. Therefore, the citizens of Duhok should cast their votes for List No. 129 in this election to terminate the authoritarian rule."
