An analysis of the audio recording has confirmed that it was generated by artificial intelligence.

Tech4Peace, a technology organisation and official partner of Meta, has unveiled the truth behind a misleading audio recording released by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) High Election Committee.

“The recording purporting to be a conversation between Bafel Talabani and Qubad Talabani was generated by artificial intelligence,” Tech4Peace stated in a Facebook post.

The KDP High Election Committee had published an audio recording featuring an alleged conversation between Bafel Talabani and Qubad Talabani, which was swiftly dismissed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) as a fabrication. Despite the revelation, KDP's official and funded media outlets proceeded to circulate the misleading recording.

"The audio was created using a $10 program," remarked Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the PUK, during a campaign rally in Garmian.

At an election rally in the Sangasar district of the Raparin administration, Qubad Talabani said: “In these elections, the KDP knows it cannot manipulate the votes, so it has distorted both my voice and Mr. Bafel’s. Today, they released a fake audio recording, falsely claiming that we were speaking on the phone.”

Karwan Gazneyi, spokesperson for the PUK list 129 for the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections, added during a press conference: "The voice that was published is not real; it is fake. The KDP is facing a significant defeat and is attempting to create distractions ahead of the elections."
