Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received a high-level delegation from the United Stated (US) led by US Congressman Seth Moulton, where they discussed the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, reform of the Peshmerga forces, and several other issues.
During the meeting on Friday, October 11, 2024, attended by several senior political and military advisors, additional congressional officials, and Steven Bitner, US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, both parties underscored the necessity for transparent and fair elections that accurately represent the will of the citizens of the Kurdistan Region.
The US delegation hoped for the next cabinet to be established promptly following the elections, and for the next government to be more efficient and unified to better promote relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, as well as between the Kurdistan Region and the US, while also swiftly and successfully executing the reform process within the Peshmerga forces.
The meeting also addressed the presence of coalition forces in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. In this context, Qubad Talabani highlighted the persistent threat of terrorism in Iraq and the region, emphasising the necessity for coalition forces' presence to support the security forces in Kurdistan and Iraq.
