IHEC Elections Kurdistan Parliament PUK

Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai has denied the allegations that were published on her behalf, stating: "The information published on my behalf is inaccurate and misleading; they are an insult to the electoral process and the integrity of the Board of Commissioners."

The Arabic section of the Kurdistan 24 channel, affiliated with the Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister group within the Kurdistan Democratic Party, propagated a fabricated report attributed to IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai, asserting that the IHEC "will conduct an investigation into the (alleged) fraud perpetrated by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Halabja."

"What has been published on my behalf is inaccurate and misleading. They are an insult to the electoral process and the integrity of the Board of Commissioners," Ghalai told PUKMEDIA.

The IHEC spokesperson emphasised: "Such allegations aim to undermine the voter's confidence in the electoral process, as they are an insult to me personally because I did not declare or talk about fraud in the elections, and the elections have not yet taken place for fraud to occur."

The sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2024. The PUK is contesting with PUK List 129 and 172 candidates under the slogans "Correcting the Course of Governance" and "We Will End It."

KDP is Facing Significant Defeat

Last week, the KDP released a statement based on a fake recording of Bafel Jalal Talabani and Qubad Talabani made via AI, claiming that the PUK is committing fraud in the elections. Later, Qubad Talabani stated: "This is a low act of fraud." The PUK media also replied briefly: "Not even artificial intelligence can save you."

PUK 129 Spokesperson Karwan Gazneyi stated at a press conference: "The voice that was published is not real; it is fake. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is facing a significant defeat and is attempting to create problems for the elections."
