Over 14,000 Observers Set to Monitor October 20 Elections

A total of 14,646 organisations, international media outlets, consulates, representatives of political parties, and local and international observers will be monitoring the elections for the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament.
According to statistics obtained by PUKMEDIA from the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), "35 international organisations and media outlets, 13 consulates, 12,972 representatives of political entities, 15 political parties, 1,098 local observers, and 28 local organisations have been registered to monitor and oversee the elections for the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament, scheduled for October 20, 2024."
The electoral campaign for the Kurdistan Parliament elections is entering its final week, with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) participating with List 129 across all electoral constituencies under the slogan "We Will End Authoritarian Rule."
Jumana al-Ghalai: Spokesperson for the IHEC, told PUKMEDIA: "1,343 representatives of political parties, 3 political parties, 226 local observers, and 9 local organisations are involved in the election monitoring process in Erbil Province."
She added: "In Sulaymaniyah Province, 2,629 representatives of political parties, 3 political parties, 120 local observers, and 8 local organisations are monitoring the election process."
She explained that "the elections in Duhok Province will be overseen by 6,735 representatives of political parties, 7 political parties, 772 local observers, and 11 local organisations, while in Halabja Province, the elections will be monitored by 265 representatives of political parties and 2 additional parties."
The statistics from the IHEC indicate that "18 international observers, 17 international organisations, and 13 consulates from various countries will monitor the electoral process on election day."
The elections for the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament are set to take place on October 20, 2024, with the PUK participating with List 129 and 172 candidates distributed across the four electoral constituencies.
