PUK Participates in Upcoming Elections With Highly Qualified Candidates

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections with 172 candidates. The majority of these candidates are young and possess exceptional skills. Among them, 88% carry out specialised fields that align with the requirements of the Kurdistan Parliament.
PUK Candidates are Highly Qualified
According to information gathered by PUKMEDIA from the Elections Bureau, 22.67% of the candidates hold higher education degrees (39 candidates), while 65.7% have bachelor’s degrees or diplomas (113 candidates). The smallest group consists of candidates with high school degrees or lower, making up 11.62% (20 candidates).
The Presidency of the Kurdistan Region has announced a decree to conduct elections for the sixth round of the Kurdistan Parliament on October 20, 2024. The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) will oversee the process, which will utilise a multi-constituency electoral system.
According to data from the PUK Election Bureau, the age distribution of the candidates indicates a youthful demographic. into the pool of candidates, 23 persons, accounting for 13.37%, fall into the age range of 25 to 40 years old. At the same time, a total of 120 candidates, accounting for 69.77% of the total, are between the ages of 40 and 50 and 29 candidates (16.86%) are between the ages of 50 and 60.
PUK's Female Representation Exceeds Legal Standard
According to information from PUKMEDIA, the participation rate of women has been fully taken into account, with 62 out of 172 candidates being women, which represents more than 36%.
The PUK has a total of 172 candidates, with 64 in Erbil, 72 in Sulaymaniyah, six in Halabja, and 30 in Duhok.
