Shinyar Anwar: KRG Office in Washington Works Against Sulaymaniyah
Kurdistan 06:07 PM - 2024-09-08Activist and political researcher Shinyar Anwar during the press conference.
Shinyar Anwar spoke about the outcome of her visit to the United States (US) Congress, affirming that the President of the Congress fully supports the recognition of Anfal and chemical attacks as genocide. Furthermore, she said that they will create a legal obligation for the US President to protect the Kurdish people.
Moreover, she revealed that the Kurdish prime minister's office in Washington is biased, not advocating for the Kurdish cause, but is actively lobbying against Sulaymaniyah.
The President of Congress supports us
Shinyar Anwar, a female activist and political researcher, spoke about her latest visit to the US during a press conference, where she stated: "I submitted all the documents and letters relating to Anfal survivors to the US President, the President of US Congress, and 538 members of the Congress. The congressmen showed their support for formulating a resolution to officially recognise Anfal and chemical attacks as genocide and then send this resolution to the President of the Congress."
"During our meeting, the President of Congress made a commitment to not reject the measure whenever it is presented. Hence, we have 100% support from the President of the Congress," she stated.
"The President of Congress proposed that a delegation from Congress visit Chamchamal to meet with Anfal survivors and their relatives and gather additional evidence, or that a delegation from Anfal survivors and their relatives travel to the United States to meet with the Congress President," Anwar said.
PUK is establishing an institution to recognise Anfal & chemical attacks as genocide
"Our plan is to work with the PUK, retired judges, and legal experts to establish an institution specific to the recognition of the Anfal and chemical attacks as genocide worldwide. This institution will engage in lobbying efforts using political, cultural, and artistic means," Anwar continued.
"While these measures are crucial, they are not easy, and the KRG or the government office in Washington should have implemented them. However, we effectively accomplished this by leveraging our relations," she stated.
The US and US President will protect the Kurds
Anwar also said: "In 2018, a law was passed in the US on preventing genocide worldwide. This legislation allows us to create a legal obligation for the US President to not only show sympathy towards the Kurdish people but also to ensure their protection in the event of renewed extermination against them."
They are lobbying against Sulaymaniyah in US
"The KRG office in Washington is characterised by a party-oriented approach and does not work for the Kurdish cause," Anwar continued. A number of Congressmen informed me that the KRG office is lobbying against Sulaymaniyah in an attempt to damage its reputation during my most recent visit to the US.
