The objective of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is to correct the governance course and democratically restore the balance of power for the current condition of the Kurdistan Region.
PUK's Strategic Relationships Lead to Major Achievements
The PUK Leadership Council meeting held in Erbil emphasized the need to correct the course of governance and change the balance of power in Kurdistan, where PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani said that they will make the policy of fixing the course, restoring the balance of power, and establishing a robust government a tangible reality.
President Bafel also highlighted the political landscape in Kurdistan and Iraq, as well as the PUK's approach towards them. He particularly detailed the significant accomplishments of our continuously expanding diplomatic ties at the Iraqi, Kurdistan Region, and international levels, which have been crucial achievements for our people.
People Demand Reform in Governance
Rabiha Hamad, a member of the PUK Leadership Council, told PUKMEDIA: "Rising the PUK entails transforming the governance and restoring the balance of power in the Kurdistan Region. And of course, by doing so, through a democratic process, we can rectify the wrong track of governance."
"The correction of the governance in the Kurdistan Region is a pressing demand from all segments of people. Only the PUK is capable of undertaking this responsibility. Thus, we must do our best to strengthen the PUK in order to restore a balance of power," she stated.
"Similar to how the enhancement of diplomatic relations in the last two years has effectively rectified the trajectory and enhanced the state of citizens, we aspire for the PUK to be strong to efficiently serve and establish a government that prioritises service," she added.
PUK Aims to Fix Governance Issues in Kurdistan
Shler Ghafur, a member of the PUK Leadership Council, told PUKMEDIA: “In the upcoming sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, the PUK urges the Kurdish people to bolster the PUK in order to rectify the governance track in the Kurdistan Region to enable Kurdistan to become a powerful entity and put the Kurdistan Regional Government back on the right path, which is the path of serving."
"The people must vote to shift the family and tribal government into a service government and this can only be achieved by enhancing the role of the PUK," stated Ghafur.
She said: "The people of the Kurdistan Region have endured injustice, poor governance, and a lack of services for over a decade, so the present moment offers a favourable opportunity for the people to establish a system of power balance through a democratic process."
The sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections is scheduled to take place on October 20, 2024. The PUK is fully prepared for the election and aims to rectify the poor governance in the Kurdistan Region by means of this democratic process and establish a service government.
