Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, convened a meeting with Jordanian Minister of Agriculture Khaled Musa al-Henefat to explore strategies for enhancing agricultural ties between the Kurdistan Region and Jordan.
The meeting, convened on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, was attended by Begard Talabani, the Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Kurdistan Region, and Fuad al-Majali, the Consul General of Jordan in the Kurdistan Region.
The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the two parties. This memorandum aims to enhance agricultural relations and is seen as an essential measure to bolster that sector. Hence, the necessity for enhanced coordination and cooperation to attain shared objectives of both parties was underscored.
Qubad Talabani emphasised that the primary focus of the Kurdistan Region is the advancement of the agricultural sector.
"Our objective is to establish ourselves as a producer and exporter of agricultural products," he said, emphasising that the primary focus of the Kurdistan Region in the initial stage is to fulfil the demands of the local market and other regions inside Iraq.
During another segment of the conference, the significance of the food industry was deliberated. Qubad Talabani emphasised that the Kurdistan Region has made commendable progress in this area in recent years and intends to promote more participation of both local and international investors in this sector.
A further subject of discussion was the tourist initiative that has garnered significant attention from the Deputy Prime Minister in recent years. The project seeks to enhance the agricultural and tourism sectors.
