PUK's Head of Foreign Relations Dept. & Head of EU's Liaison Office in Erbil
The Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) expresses the desire for a strong parliament in the future that can effectively oversee the government's activities. For his part, the Head of the European Union (EU) Liaison Office in Erbil expressed their sincere wishes for the success of the electoral process.
Dara Khaylani, the Head of the Foreign Relations Department and a member of the Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Torkild Byg, the Head of the EU Liaison Office in Erbil, at his office in the Political Bureau headquarters in Erbil on Wednesday.
Following a discussion on the current political situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the surrounding region, the two parties shifted their attention to the upcoming elections for the sixth round of the Kurdistan Parliament, which are set to take place on October 20th of this year.
Khaylani highlighted the importance of the upcoming elections, where the PUK seeks to construct a strong and functional parliament in the Kurdistan Region to effectively oversee the government and the work programs of the ministries. For this purpose, the PUK has carefully selected qualified candidates from all fields.
For his part, Mr. Byg hoped for a peaceful election campaign, while emphasizing the significance of democracy in society. He stated that elections and the peaceful transition of power are fundamental elements of democracy.
He said: "The EU places great importance on the elections and wishes for the successful outcome of the process."
