Kurdistan Region Vice President Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa and Steven Bitner, the new Consul General of the United States (US) in the Kurdistan Region, emphasised that the next Kurdistan parliamentary elections should take place on time, in a peaceful and democratic nature.
During the meeting on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, the Vice President of the Kurdistan Region and the US Consul General engaged in discussions regarding the advancement of US relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, political and security advancements in the region, efforts to fight the Islamic State (ISIS) threat, and the reform process and reunification of the Peshmerga forces.
Both parties reached a consensus that the disputes between Baghdad and Erbil should be settled through constructive discussions within the parameters of the Constitution. They emphasised the importance of conducting the Kurdistan parliamentary elections in a peaceful and democratic nature, adhering to the scheduled timeline.
