IHEC is Fully Prepared for Upcoming Kurdistan Parliamentary Elections

The joint press conference of IHEC & Kurdistan Region's Presidency
On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) met with the Kurdistan Region's Presidency in Erbil to discuss the current status of the Region's electoral arrangements. The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners confirmed that "the Commission has completed all necessary arrangements according to the predetermined schedule."
Kurdistan Region Presidency: There are no obstacles to conducting elections
Following the meeting, Dilshad Shahab, Spokesperson for the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region, stated in a press statement that "the Presidency of the Region supports the success of the election process for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament."
Shahab stated that there are no obstacles to the elections and expressed confidence that they will be carried out successfully. "Our aim is to serve as a central point of communication for all parties involved. We urge the political parties to demonstrate an exemplary democratic process in the Kurdistan Region," he added.
IHEC: We are working according to plans
Judge Omar Ahmed, Chairman of the IHEC’s Board of Commissioners, stated that the Commission has completed all necessary arrangements for the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections and is carrying out its responsibilities in accordance with practical and time-sensitive plans.
He stated that the IHEC is overseeing the elections for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament, which are set to take place on October 20, 2024. He emphasised that the commission is conducting the elections in a professional and unbiased manner, ensuring transparency and fairness to fulfil the expectations of all.
The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners stated that the Commission met and discussed the election process with consulates from various countries, diplomats, and organisations, all of whom expressed their willingness to observe and oversee the process. The voting devices were also tested, and no issues were discovered with their performance.
According to a decree issued by the Regional Presidency in collaboration with the Commission, the Kurdistan Parliament elections will take place on October 20, 2024.
