Stran Abdullah, a member of the PUK Leadership Council.
Concerning the Yezidis' situation, including their forced displacement and the matter of returning them to their own land, a member of the Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) asserts that the internally displaced persons (IDPs) should not be used as pawns in political disputes and denied aid to return to their homes and that the PUK has diligently worked towards facilitating the return of the IDPs.
Stran Abdullah, a member of the PUK Leadership Council, told PUKMEDIA: “There was a security and political vacuum in Sinjar same as the other areas disputed between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad Terrorists were spreading in those areas because the identity of these areas has not been determined. The Islamic State (ISIS) exploited this negligence and attacked Sinjar. The fleeing of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) forces is a verifiable fact, not a political accusation. They ruled the area.”
“The IDPs cannot be held hostage to political conflict and used as voting cards and not be given help to return to start a dignified life. Therefore, the PUK as a responsible party takes ownership of the case of the Yezidis and all the tragedies of our people and has made every effort to return the Yezidis to their homeland,” said Abdullah.
