Iraqi President Receives Ambassadors of Several Countries

The Iraqi Presidency reported that Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid held a meeting with the Ambassadors of Czechia and France, along with a German team led by the Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Assistance, in Baghdad Palace on Sunday, July 21, 2024.
Iraqi President: Iraq is keen to develop strong relations with Czechia
At his meeting with Czech Ambassador Petr Stepanek who has concluded his term in Iraq, President Rashid commended Ambassador Stepanek's efforts during his tenure, and for going above and beyond to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. He also conveyed to him his best wishes for success in his future assignments.
"Iraq is keen to develop strong relations with Czechia at all levels in a manner that achieves the mutual interests of both countries and peoples while enhancing regional stability and security," President Rashid stated.
Ambassador Stepanek affirmed his country's commitment to supporting Iraq's stability and security.
President Rashid: Iraqi Presidency prioritises human rights issues
President Rashis also received a German delegation headed by Luise Amstberg, Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Assistance. They discussed humanitarian issues and efforts to close camps for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and facilitate their return to their homes.
“The Iraqi Presidency prioritises human rights issues and supports all efforts aimed at providing a secure environment for displaced persons to return home,” said President Rashid. He also acknowledged the vital role that international agencies can play in supporting these endeavors.
He highlighted the joint efforts between relevant ministries in monitoring human rights issues.
President Rashid pointed out: "Numerous positive steps have been taken as a result of the combined efforts of the presidency, the Supreme Judicial Council, the Ministry of Justice and Interior, as well as the National Security Advisory. Among these positive achievements is the release over 13,000 detainees who had completed their sentences."
Amstberg commended President Rashid's dedication to human rights and expressed optimism about enhanced cooperation between Iraq and Germany.
President Rashid: We Hope Paris Olympic Games Promote World Peace and Cooperation
President Rashid expressed his hope that the upcoming Paris Olympic Games will promote the bonds of friendship among nations and spread the spirit of cooperation and peace worldwide during a meeting with French Ambassador Patrick Durel. Their discussions centred on enhancing bilateral relations between Iraq and France across various fields.
Ambassador Durel expressed his gratitude to President Rashid for his commitment to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations. He also conveyed his appreciation to President Rashid for accepting President Macron's invitation to attend the Olympics opening ceremony.
