The Iraqi President, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, has been formally invited by French President Emmanuel Macron and the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, to attend the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris next week, the Iraqi Presidency reported.

On Monday, July 15, 2024, President Rashid received Aqeel Muftin, the President of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, at Baghdad Palace. Muftin handed President Rashid the invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

The Iraqi President emphasised the significance of ensuring that all necessary resources and conditions are provided to support the success of Iraqi athletes competing in the Olympics. He urged for maximum effort to be exerted in order to achieve positive outcomes that will enhance Iraq's reputation on the global stage.

Muftin delivered a comprehensive briefing on the recent preparations of the Iraqi athletes prior to their participation in the Olympic competitions, expressing gratitude for the President's keen attention and unwavering support towards athletes and the sports sector.
