Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, condemned the terrorist attack that resulted in the death of an Asayish member in Qarahanjir, Kirkuk. He emphasised that terrorism continues to pose a significant threat.
On Sunday, July 14, 2024, a member of the Kurdistan Region's Security Agency (Asayish) was killed during a clash with two Islamic State (ISIS) gunmen. According to a statement from the Asayish, one of the terrorists was killed and the other captured.
In a statement obtained by PUKMEDIA, Deputy Prime Minister Talabani said: "Regrettably, an Asayish associate was fatally injured and another was wounded in a confrontation between Asayish forces and ISIS terrorists in Qarahanjir."
"Despite the fact that Kurdistan's security and stability have been successfully maintained in recent years, thanks to the vigilance and ongoing efforts of the security forces and all Kurdistan security forces, terrorism continues to pose a significant threat to Kurdistan and Iraq," DPM Talabani stated.
"We assure everyone that our forces will persist in their efforts until the very last terrorist is held accountable," DPM Talabani added.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of Asayish martyr Jwamer Rashid, conveying his sympathy.
"I pray that God bestows eternal peace upon the soul of the martyr Jwamer in Heaven, and I express my hope for a swift recovery for the injured Asayish associate," he said.
