The Security Agency (Asayish) of the Kurdistan Region reported that on Sunday, July 14, 2024, two gunmen connected to the Islamic State (ISIS) and security forces engaged in combat, resulting in the deaths of one terrorist and the capture of another.
According to the Asayish statement, a member of the Asayish was also killed during the clash.
The incident occurred at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday in Qarahanjiri-Kirkuk while Asayish forces were conducting a mission to apprehend two terrorists.
One terrorist was shot dead, another was captured with injuries, and Jwamer Aziz Rashid, an Asayish member, was killed in action. Another Asayish member was injured. These events were reported in the Asayish statement.
According to the statement, considering their track record of committing numerous acts of terrorism, the two ISIS gunmen arrived in the area with the intent of carrying out terrorist activities.
The statement highlighted that they previously martyred a police officer in the Shoraw neighbourhood. During their second assault, a confrontation occurred while they were placing an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Panja Ali neighbourhood, resulting in the death of another police officer. Two more police officers were killed in the third assault on the Kirkuk Bazaar. During the fourth assault, a police officer was killed in front of the Republic Hospital.
