Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid offered congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer, the newly appointed British Prime Minister.

President Rashid said on X Platform: "We offer our congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer on assuming his role as the new Prime Minister of UK. We wish him success in fulfilling his responsibilities, and we also send our congratulations to the Labour Party for their triumph in the UK's general elections."

"On this occasion, we confirm Iraq's desire to enhance current relations with UK in multiple areas of shared interest, with the aim of advancing the collective interests of both countries and peoples, while bolstering the security and stability of the region," he added.

 

Iraqi President, British Ambassador Discuss Bilateral Relations

Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hitchen at Salam Palace, on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

The Iraqi Presidency's media reported that President Rashid and the British Ambassador discussed ways to improve British-Iraqi relations across all sectors.

President Rashid emphasised the significance of expanding bilateral cooperation and enhancing coordination on issues of common interest in order to serve the interests of both friendly countries and foster regional stability and security, as well as achieving economic growth.

Ambassador Hitchen reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Iraq at all levels.
