On Thursday, Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Stephen Hitchen, the British Ambassador to Iraq. The two parties discussed the relationship between the Region and Baghdad, the establishment of a British International University, and a variety of other topics.

Daban Shadala, the Deputy Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Foreign Relations Department, attended the meeting. Qubad Talabani stated that both the Region and Baghdad are committed to resolving concerns, particularly budget and salary issues, including those affecting the Kurdistan Region's security forces.

The issue of illegal migration was also addressed. Both parties agreed that a radical solution to this problem can be achieved through economic growth and service improvements.

Qubad Talabani stated that a large number of migrants live in underdeveloped cities and towns. Therefore, by implementing equitable development strategies, prioritising investment in these areas, and creating employment opportunities, the rate of illegal migration can be significantly reduced.

During the meeting, they also discussed the progress made in establishing a British International University in the Kurdistan Region. The British Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister for his support and assistance in facilitating the university's establishment.

Qubad Talabani expressed optimism that the establishment of this university would strengthen academic ties between Kurdistan and Britain, as well as have a remarkable impact on the advancement of higher education and scientific research in the Kurdistan Region.
