PUK Official: Elections are Crucial Entitlement of Citizens

Dara Khaylani, Member of the Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Head of the PUK's Foreign Relations, welcomed Arakawa Mikihiro, Consul of Japan in the Kurdistan Region, on Monday, May 27, 2024, in Erbil. 

Khaylani acknowledged and valued Japan's contribution in providing aid and support to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He also urged for the continuation of this assistance and coordination.

The meeting also addressed the most recent political advancements in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the region. It also examined the consequences of delaying the Kurdistan parliamentary elections on the region's structure and the issue of the minority communities' quota seats.

Khaylani clarified the position of the PUK, emphasising that elections are a crucial entitlement of citizens and the optimal means for revitalising robust governance that caters to the needs of the people. Additionally, he highlighted that the PUK is eager to address the internal issues of the Kurdistan Region and foster unity among the political forces and parties.

"We have full faith in the coexistence of all communities," he stated.
