DPM Talabani: Kurdistan Region-Baghdad Relations are At Good Level

Kurdistan Qubad Talabani KRG Iraq Romania

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Radu Octavian Dobre, the Romanian Ambassador to Iraq, to address several matters of shared interest.

The meeting was held on Monday, May 27, 2024, and was attended by Daban Shadala, Deputy Head of the Kurdistan Region's Foreign Relations Department, and Petre Constantin, Head of the Republic of Romania Consular Office in the Kurdistan Region. Both parties agreed on the importance of strengthening ties between Romania and the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the areas of commerce and higher education.

During the discussion, they emphasised promoting Romanian investment in Kurdistan, particularly in the food industry. DPM Talabani stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government is fully prepared to provide various forms of assistance to Romanian companies interested in contributing to the Kurdistan Region's economic advancement.

During another part of the discussion, the participants discussed the future of academic collaborations between the universities on both sides.

DPM Talabani highlighted the presence of Kurdish students currently enrolled in Romanian universities. He urged the Romanian government to support these students and work to increase Kurdish enrollment at the country's universities.

They also discussed the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. DPM Talabani highlighted recent developments to the Romanian Ambassador, stating that their relations have improved and that both sides have taken positive steps to address issues, particularly the budget and salaries of Kurdistan Region employees.
