Iraqi President: It is Important to Address Conflicts Via Dialogue

Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met an Iranian delegation led by his counterpart Ebrahim Raisi at his presidential residence in Algiers, on the sidelines of the 7th Summit of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) on Saturday, March 2, 2024.
They discussed Iraq-Iran relations, as well as the shared history and religious beliefs between the two countries. President Rashid highlighted that it is vital to expand the horizon of cooperation in a manner most beneficial to the citizens of both countries and achieving the comprehensive development both nations desire.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of holding the GECF's 7th Summit. They noted that this summit will significantly impact the stability of the energy sector and help achieve a balance between energy security and emission reduction while preserving the environment.
On regional developments, President Rashid emphasized the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region and taking steps to ease tensions.
"It is important to address conflicts via dialogue," he noted, "and any action that threatens international peace and security should be condemned."
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi reaffirmed Iran's commitment to supporting Iraq's security and stability. He stated that his country looks forward to developing a greater level of cooperation and coordination with Iraq in the interest of regional peace and stability may prevail.
Additionally, President Raisi lauded Iraq’s pivotal role in bringing the views of the countries of the region closer together.
