Saadi Ahmed Pire, Spokesperson of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
Saadi Ahmed Pire, Spokesperson of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), says that the PUK does not want to be a threat to any country and that fighting against Türkiye is in Amedi and Duhok, however the PUK is blamed for it.
In an exclusive interview with PUKMEDIA, PUK Spokesperson Pire said, that "The PUK places significant emphasis on geography in its regional and international policy, following President Mam Jalal's guidance. Türkiye is considered a neighboring country and a vital player in the region."
He stated: "Türkiye, as a neighbouring country, is a powerful country regardless of the nature of our relations. The PUK does not wish to pose a threat to it. The allegations of aiding the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) are baseless, as the conflict is in Duhok and Amedi, making it implausible for the PUK to provide logistical support to the PKK."
He further said: "Although the Turkish government possesses significant material resources and a wide array of sophisticated weaponry, it has not been able to address its issues with the PKK within its own cities, so how can it expect to address them in the Kurdistan Region?"
Adding: "The PUK has not invited the PKK to the Kurdistan Region and does not wish for their presence to pose a threat to the Turkish border. We do not want a force to operate in Türkiye and then later return to the Kurdistan Region, but the PKK has not sought our permission for this; it even occasionally interferes with our work. Türkiye can resolve its issues with the PKK without resorting to violence."
PUK have already responded to Türkiye
Pire stated that the Kurdistan Region's Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and said: "We are prepared to address the issues with Türkiye, but you are requesting something that is non-existent as our borders and areas of jurisdiction are remote from you. The PUK has not sent forces to Türkiye and is not hostile because that is not useful to us."
Moreover, he said: "President Erdogan and the Turkish authorities have not made any statements against the PUK. However, local institutions in the Kurdistan Region are targeting the PUK and attempting to provoke us by reviving past issues, but we as the PUK have already responded to these past issues."
