Iraqi First Lady and UK's Deputy Head of Mission in Baghdad
Shanaz
Ibrahim Ahmed, Iraq's First Lady, met with Rosy Cave, Deputy Head of the UK
Mission in Baghdad.
During the meeting at the
Salam Palace in Baghdad, Ms. Rozi expressed her concern and condolences to the
First Lady regarding the attacks on Erbil province on Monday night, which
resulted in the loss of multiple lives.
The discussion centred on
the status of women in the country's ongoing developments, specifically the
consequences of war, brutality, and subjugation imposed by hostile forces on
women.
The First Lady stated,
"We will continue to assist the surviving Yazidi women and girls to help
them overcome their deep suffering and psychological trauma caused by the
extreme agony and injustice they have endured, which is unparalleled in the world."
Ms. Cave expressed her
country's willingness to support the overall rehabilitation and reintegration
of Iraqi women, particularly Yazidis, into society.
The discussion focused on
the causes of the rise in domestic violence and effective strategies for combating
it, which poses significant short- and long-term risks to individuals,
including physical, economic, and psychological consequences. Furthermore, it
prevents women from fully participating in society on an equal basis.
