Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid and First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed attended a mass at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Sulaymaniyah on Christmas Eve on Sunday, December 24, 2023.
President Rashid conveyed his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to Christians in Iraq and around the globe.
It is imperative for Iraq's renaissance, development and progress that solidarity is strengthened, national unity is promoted, and security and stability are maintained, said His Excellency.
“This year, my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of the Hamdaniya wedding fire,” he said. “With a heavy heart, I pray for the eternal repose of the victims and Iraq's martyrs.”
The president expressed his hope that this blessed occasion would mark the end of the suffering of the Palestinian brothers, the end of the aggression and barbaric bombing of the Gaza Strip, and the beginning of the dawn of a new era of peace throughout the world.
