On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) released a statement commemorating the ongoing battle of women against various forms of oppression and injustice.
The Political Bureau's message said:
The date of November 25 commemorates the collective efforts of women in their fight against many forms of oppression, injustice, discrimination, abuse, and violence. This Day has emerged as a significant emblem for women globally, serving as a formal platform for a range of events and demonstrations aimed at articulating women's aspirations and advocating for gender equality.
The designation of this day by the United Nations encompasses a comprehensive examination of the various dimensions of violence against women, including but not limited to issues of inequality, discrimination, domestic violence, physical and psychological abuse, sexual assault, trafficking of women, female genital mutilation, etc.
As a social democratic and progressive political party, the PUK strongly supports women's rights, equality, and the abolition of discrimination and oppression. The party remains committed to President Mam Jalal's path, which aims to empower women, eliminate discriminatory practices, and foster national unity and equality. To address this issue, it is critical to create a solid legislative foundation for women's rights, compelling the government and other authorities to implement it.
