On his official visit to Armenia, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, met the country's President and Prime Minister on Wednesday.

Armenia Welcomes Iraqi President

President Rashid was given an official welcome on Wednesday at the Presidential Palace in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. President Vahagn Khachaturyan of Armenia greeted His Excellency.

During the meeting, there was a discussion about Iraq-Armenia relations as well as the best method to strengthen these ties.

Furthermore, recent changes in international issues were examined.

Friendly relations between the two nations must be established, and collaborative bilateral cooperation must be expanded at various levels, according to President Rashid.

As President Rashid pointed out, the Armenian community is a vital part of Iraq's identity and a source of pride that we value and work to preserve. These relationships are what strengthen the bonds between the two nations. He emphasized that there have been Armenians in Iraq since the Babylonian era and that they played a major role in the establishment and sacrifice of Iraq.

His Excellency emphasized how much Iraqis sympathized with and felt anguish over the crimes committed against the Armenians, having gone through similar agony and witnessed periods of dictatorial government, the Halabja and Anfal massacres, the most recent of which was carried out by Daesh.

According to the President, Iraq is interested in strengthening the foundation of its relationship with Armenia by activating bilateral work mechanisms and following up on the conclusions of previous joint committee meetings in Baghdad. He emphasized the need to modernize the economy, promote digital services, and improve governance, in addition to addressing the need to improve technological cooperation.

According to President Rashid, Iraq has attained remarkable security, political stability, and economic prosperity, saying that the country has developed into a ripe market for investment in a number of sectors, most notably infrastructure development and rehabilitation, trade, and cooperation in the tourism and environmental fields. He said that Armenian businesses are welcome to take part in a variety of development projects in Iraq.

In addition, the president of Iraq thanked President Khachaturian for the kind welcome he gave His Excellency and sent him an official invitation to travel to Baghdad in 2024, which the president of Armenia accepted.

President Rashid Meets Armenian Prime Minister

President Rashid also met with Armenia's Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan. The meeting was held in the Armenian capital, Yerevan.

During the discussion, they talked about how to strengthen bilateral ties between Iraq and Armenia in a number of areas of shared interest.

In order to further enhance the social and economic development of the two nations, President Rashid underlined that although relations have been steadily growing, it is still possible to expand these connections' horizons and improve their economic aspects.

His Excellency confirmed that Iraq is open to cooperation, particularly in the areas of investment, reconstruction, and infrastructure rehabilitation, in order to benefit both the country and its partners. Iraq has good relations with its neighbors as well as the rest of the world, and it enjoys a high level of security and political stability.

In his remarks, Armenian Prime Minister Mr. Pashinyan praised relations and cooperation between Iraq and Armenia, emphasizing Armenia's commitment to expanding positive cooperation with Iraq in a variety of fields.

Iraqi President Commemorates the Victims of the Armenian Genocide

On Wednesday, President Rashid paid tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide at the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial while in Yerevan, Armenia.

President Rashid placed flowers at the Eternal Flame and laid a wreath at the Memorial as a symbol of his respect for the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

His Excellency examined genocide-related materials during his visit to the memorial museum. These materials comprised an assortment of images, statistics, newspaper articles, and videos that shed light on this tragic event.

Following the planting of his tree in the line of memory established by foreign dignitaries, the President joined a group of over 200 heads of state and government from around the world who had planted trees throughout the year.
