Deputy Prime Minister & Head of UNAMI's Independent Strategic Review

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met with Volker Perthes, Head of UNAMI's Independent Strategic Review, to discuss the most recent political shifts and events in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Daban Shadala, the Deputy Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Foreign Relations Department, was present at the meeting, which took place in Erbil on Wednesday. They emphasized how important the UN team was to their efforts to find solutions.

Talabani expressed gratitude for their significant contribution and highlighted UNAMI's efforts to support Iraqi political parties in preserving peace and stability and resolving disputes through dialogue.

The internal state of the Kurdistan Region and ties with Baghdad were also topics of discussion at the meeting. The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the negotiations are continuing between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region, and the objective is to use the law and the Constitution to settle the issues.

During the meeting, Mr. Perthes delivered an overview outlining the plans of the UNAMI and expressed their willingness to sustain coordination efforts with the Iraqis.
