The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is making a
significant effort to strengthen and consolidate the Kurdish position in
Baghdad, and the political factions within the Kurdistan Region express their
support and approval for this initiative.
It has been suggested that political
parties prioritizes the declaration of national reconciliation because the lack
of unity among political parties in the region is a significant impediment to
the Kurds achieving their constitutional rights.
The PUK prioritizes the concept of
national unity as a means of efficiently serving the people. A PUK delegation,
under the direction of President Bafel Jalal Talabani, intends to visit other
political parties to achieve this goal. The purpose of this visit is to
reaffirm the PUK's unwavering commitment to promoting national unity, as stated
in its policy.
National goals require unitySubhi Mahdi, a member of the political bureau of the Kurdistan Communist Party, told PUKMEDIA, "Past experiences have demonstrated that unity is the key to accomplishments and shared goals. No political entity in the region is capable of independently managing the situation's requirements and taking the initiative to do so. There is no way to avoid division given the complexity of the circumstances."
"As a first step, all political factions must engage in a national dialogue. Due to the arrogance of certain parties who are solely concerned with preserving their own advantages, there will be no dialogue. Mahdi stated that it is essential to adopt a well-balanced strategy that takes the risks of the current situation into account. Additionally, he stated, "The division in the region is what has undermined the region's equilibrium and power in Baghdad. Officials in the Kurdistan Region should question why, in the past, Iraqi forces came to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah to establish the Iraqi government, and all decisions were made in the region, but not anymore."
Unity aids the Kurds' delicate situation
We need unity among the Kurdistan
Region's political parties if we are to strengthen the Kurdish position in
Baghdad.
Abubakr Haladini, a member
of the leadership of the Kurdistan Islamic Union, told PUKMEDIA: "All
parties have long wished for Kurdish unity. A consensus on the roadmap,
national strategy, and the principle of strengthening democracy is
unquestionably a critical step that will establish the parties' roles and
responsibilities toward one another and benefit the delicate situation of Kurds
in general and South Kurdistan in particular."
"By working together, we can
stabilize Kurdistan Region citizen rights and financial entitlements, and our
unity will positively affect the Kurdish position in Iraq," he added.
Political parties must declare national reconciliation
For the sake of the nation, political
parties must declare national reconciliation to realize the constitutional
rights of the region in Baghdad.
Adil Mala Salih, a member of
the Kurdistan Social Democratic Party's leadership, told PUKMEDIA:
"We have never needed internal unity within the Kurdish parties more than
we do now. The difficult political situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan
Region, which has several political, legal, and constitutional issues, calls
for greater national unity."
"For the sake of our nation,
which has shed so much blood, political parties must proclaim national
reconciliation," he added. If regional political parties cannot unite, we
will be unable to advance with Iraq and demand the consolidation of our rights
while pursuing our constitutional rights."
Unity is necessary to serve the public interest
Former Kurdistan Parliament member
Omar Gulpi of the Kurdistan Justice Group told PUKMEDIA: "Unity on a
specific agenda is critical to serving the public interest." It should be
based on internal equality and a comprehensive program of unity among the
parties; this unity should also extend beyond Iraq," he said. "The
Kurds must unite within the region."
"We believe that by
striving to eradicate monopolies, fighting corruption, and creating a fair
atmosphere in the region, other parties are willing to support Kurdish
unity," he added.
PUK strives for unity
Salar Sarhad Khalifa, head of the
Kurdistan Relations Board and member of the PUK's Leadership Council, told
PUKMEDIA: "The PUK seeks to end the dispute between the Kurdish parties
and replace it with national unity, whereas President Bafel's push for unity
and solidarity is intended to serve the people."
"The majority of
political parties participated in the PUK's fifth congress and sent letters of
congratulations to the party, demonstrating that the PUK has advocated for
national unity from the beginning of the congress and that the parties have supported
this," he added.
Following the fifth congress, the PUK
takes initiatives with all parties to build national unity in the Kurdistan
Region, uphold national rights, and serve the people. Given the current state
of affairs in the region, the parties applaud this move and regard it as a
significant and effective step. They urge all parties
to set aside their personal interests and cooperate for the benefit of the
nation.
