PUK President: We Will Adopt the Practice of Holding Congresses Every Two Years

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Leadership Council convened under the direction of PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
The discussion, which took place at the headquarters of the PUK Political Bureau in Erbil, focused on the most recent initiatives for the PUK's 5th Congress, scheduled for September 27.
President Bafel discussed the significance of the congress to the PUK's party life and political struggle, stating, "The congress will further encourage the struggle for the success of our program to serve the Kurdish people and improve their quality of life, which is the PUK's fundamental and unchanging strategic program."
The President of the PUK stressed that with God's help, “we will be able to hold a successful and unified congress.” While the President was listening to the proposals and opinions of the leadership members, as well as their support for the need to organize a successful congress, and praising their spirit of comradery, the President of the PUK also emphasized that they were supportive of the need to organize a successful congress.
"As with Western parties, we will adopt the practice of holding congresses every two years," he stated.
In another portion of his address, President Bafel stated: "The recommendations of the meeting, which was the largest gathering of comrades from all levels, organs, and cities of Kurdistan, will assist us in planning a successful congress."
In addition, President Bafel suggested that we form a powerful, influential council in Congress out of our struggling countrymen, one that would assist us in achieving our objectives.
The Leadership Council thanked the Supreme Congress Commission for its prior efforts after hearing the details of the commission's work, and it instructed the leadership comrades to submit their ideas and thoughts to the commission to advance its efforts.
During the meeting, the political situation in Iraq and Kurdistan, as well as the PUK's strategies for addressing these issues, were also discussed. The PUK leader provided appropriate justification and urged the comrades to continue working in the same spirit of cooperation and consensus that has been praised by our friends in Iraq and our supporters around the world.
In closing, President Bafel urged the Leadership Council to proudly reunite with their fellow soldiers and renew their unity campaign to ensure the success of the upcoming congress.
