Canadian Ambassador Praises Qubad Talabani's Role

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Canadian Ambassador Gregory Galligan and discussed several issues of mutual interest.
The meeting took place in Erbil on Monday, August 14, 2023, to mark the end of the Canadian Ambassador's tenure in Iraq. Qubad Talabani expressed gratitude for Ambassador Galligan's significant contribution to strengthening diplomatic ties between the Kurdistan Region and Canada, and wished him well in his future endeavors.
During the same meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister congratulated Tammy Ames on his new position as the Canadian Embassy's new ambassador in Erbil.
Discussion at the meeting focused extensively on the state of the diplomatic ties between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. Both parties agreed that all unresolved issues between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region should be resolved through communication and mutual understanding so as to serve their common interests.
The importance of passing the oil and gas law was also discussed, and Qubad Talabani stated, "The oil and gas law is a sensitive issue that requires more discussions and negotiations between the parties in order to be passed in a manner that is in the best interest of the entire Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region."
He emphasized that Kurdish parties should participate in the oil and gas law negotiations with unity and a unified voice in order to more effectively protect the region's constitutional rights.
Another section of the meeting focused on the upcoming parliamentary elections. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of holding elections on the date set by the presidency and urged political parties to work together to resolve their differences and ensure fair and transparent elections.
The conference also discussed the reform process and electronic government institutions; the Canadian ambassador praised Qubad Talabani's contribution to both processes and encouraged him to continue working on reform and electronic government for better governance.
Qubad Talabani stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government intends to expand reform and digitization efforts, and he urged Canada to provide additional assistance in this regard.
