Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met with Japanese Ambassador to Iraq Futoshi Matsumoto to discuss recent political developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen ties between the Kurdistan Region and Japan. Futoshi Matsumoto is in Iraq to represent Japan.
Talabani thanked the Japanese government for helping the Kurdistan Region develop economic infrastructure and services during a meeting on Thursday that was conducted in Erbil with Daban Shadala, the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Deputy Head of the Foreign Relations Department, saying: "Japan's experience in development serves as a clear and effective model at the international level, and Iraq and the Kurdistan Region should profit from the country's expertise in managing various industries."
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the KRG's willingness to deepen bilateral partnerships, particularly in trade and higher education.
The two groups reached an agreement that negotiations should be used to resolve disagreements between the political parties in Kurdistan and Iraq, as well as problems between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, to maintain stability in Iraq and the region, and to create an environment conducive to economic development.
