President Rashid receives European Diplomatic Missions
On Wednesday, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, received the Heads and Representatives of the diplomatic missions of European countries accredited in Iraq at the Baghdad Palace.
In welcoming the diplomats, President Rashid recognized the importance of maintaining good relations with European countries as well as with the rest of the world. He shared his conviction that these relations must be based on cooperation, mutual respect, and collaboration in various fields.
Iraq’s President underscored the security and stability prevailing in the country, which helps improve living standards and the provision of services for citizens. He expressed the hope that diplomats stationed in Baghdad convey to their capitals an accurate picture of the positive developments taking place in Iraq.
His Excellency also informed the diplomats that following the approval of the general budget, Iraq will soon launch a campaign of construction and reconstruction to rehabilitate infrastructure and implement the government program. The next stage, he said, would be to develop the electricity and services sectors, and he called upon the ambassadors to encourage companies to come to Iraq and invest in these vital projects.
President Rashid reiterated his previous statements condemning the desecration of the Holy Quran. He dismissed any attempts to justify this heinous act as freedom of opinion and expression. He added that the Iraqi government has taken measures to ensure the security and safety of all embassies and diplomatic missions in Iraq.
During the meeting, the reasons for the withdrawal of the unconstitutional Presidential Decree No. 147 of 2013 were also discussed. President Rashid reassured the European diplomats that all religious groups in the country are considered equal and form a respected part of the Iraqi nation.
His Excellency listened with great interest to the remarks made by the European diplomats, all of whom reaffirmed their countries’ support for Iraq, its security, stability, and the welfare of its people. The meeting concluded with all in agreement over increased prospects to strengthen friendly relations and joint cooperation in various fields to consolidate peace and prosperity.
