PUK and Kurdistani parties
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is ready for any Kurdish unification in the disputed areas and is constantly working to ensure that Kurds vote in provincial elections using a single list.
On the advice of President Bafel Jalal Talabani, a high-level PUK delegation visited the Kurdish parties in an effort to bring the Kurds together for the upcoming provincial council elections and to inform them of the PUK's initiative for Kurdish unity in the disputed areas.
Kurds should be the first force
Rizgar Haji Hama, the head of the PUK Election Agency, told PUKMEDIA: "We have spoken with the parties and obtained their support to achieve our goal of having all Kurdish forces and parties in the disputed areas run on a single list for the Iraqi provincial elections because we know that with unity, we can win the most votes, and this is done to defend the rights of our people."
"We are confident that the PUK will win the provincial elections in Iraq, but that does not matter because if the Kurds do not win the entire process, we will not consider ourselves victorious," he added.
PUK works for Kurdish unityTo prevent the Kurdish vote from being wasted, the PUK continues to work to bring all parties together for the provincial council elections in the Kurdistani regions.
"We cannot abandon these regions to other groups due to Kurdish fragmentation, nor can all of our accomplishments and sacrifices be rendered ineffective by the absence of a political party. As a result, the PUK has assumed the lead, and all other parties—aside from the Kurdistan Democratic Party—agree with it and wish to avoid wasting the Kurdish vote," said Hama.
PUK will build a powerful coalition for Kurds
In order to protect Kurdish interests, the PUK is assembling a powerful coalition with the intention of eradicating the danger to Kirkuk and the disputed areas.
Salar Lala Sarhad, head of the PUK's Kurdistan Relations Board, stated to PUKMEDIA, "In order to win the most votes for the Kurds in disputed areas, the PUK intends to form a strong coalition of Kurdish parties in these areas. This is done specifically so the Kurds can reclaim the governorship of Kirkuk in order to serve all communities.”
"On the recommendation of President Bafel, the PUK is continuing its efforts to eliminate threats to Kirkuk and the disputed areas and has begun negotiations with the parties in order to participate in the provincial council elections together," he added.
The PUK will not abandon Kirkuk to miseryThe PUK has never abandoned the people of Kirkuk and the disputed areas but has always served as a safe haven for them. In the upcoming provincial elections, it hopes to demonstrate, alongside other Kurdish parties, that these areas belong to Kurdistan and reclaim the governorship of Kirkuk for the Kurds in order to serve every community in Kirkuk.
A PUK delegation led by Razgar Haji Hama visited the Gorran Movement, Kurdistan Islamic Union, Kurdistan Justice Group, Kurdistan Social Democratic Party, Kurdistan Toilers' Party, and Kurdistan Communist Party, urging Kurds to unite in the upcoming Iraqi provincial council elections. In response, each of these parties supported the PUK's initiative and agreed that the Kurds in these areas should band together to garner the most votes.
