Shalaw Kosrat Rasul addressing the meeting's participants.
Shallaw Kosrat Rasul visited the Khanaqin Center of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and said: "As always, the PUK is a strong defender of the people of the Kurdistani regions (areas disputed between Erbil and Baghdad) and strives to provide them with the best services."
Article 140 of the Constitution of Iraq was primarily written to resolve the issue of the contested territories between Erbil and Baghdad. These disagreements stem from the fact that the previous Iraqi Ba'ath regime made significant efforts to Arabize the population in the provinces of Diyala, Kirkuk, Nineveh, and Saladin. Khanaqin is located in the province of Diyala.
The PUK's Stance and Next Steps were Discussed
On Monday, July 10, 2023, Shallaw Kosrat Rasul visited the Khanaqin Center with members of the PUK Political Bureau, Burhan Saeed Sofi and Sarkawt Zaki, as well as several PUK leadership members. Sherko Mirwais, the center's director, and his staff welcomed them.
Shallaw Kosrat Rasul provided an update on the situation in Kurdistan and Iraq, the PUK's stance on issues, the work of party organs, and the next steps in the work process.
Shallaw Kosrat Rasul: The Kurds Need to be United
Shallaw Kosrat Rasul also discussed the significance of the provincial council elections in the Kurdistani regions and emphasized how important it is for the Kurds to unite in order to win the most votes and preserve the Kurdish identity of these areas. To accomplish this, he instructed the region's cadres to work diligently and make every effort to attract as many voters as possible.
"The PUK is always a strong defender of the people of the Kurdistani regions and strives to provide them with the best services," he said. "All PUK members' efforts and bravery will be required to achieve this."
Participants at the meeting joined in the discussions with their comments, views, and steps for more work and involving everyone in serving the people, as well as steps for the success of the PUK program in the Kurdistani regions.
