The Progressive Alliance (PA) met in the Belgian city of Brussels to discuss how to safeguard the ideals of solidarity, justice, freedom, and democracy, and the organization's new coordinator, as well as the Financial and Economic Supervision Committee, were elected.
Saadi Pire, a member of the PA's presidency board and head of a delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), stated in a speech: "The Kurds are one of the four major nations in the Middle East, but we have not received our rights because of the failed Sykes-Picot policy, which is not only the source of problems for the Kurds, it is also the cause of problems between Arabs and Israelis, Shiites and Sunnis, Cyprus, and many other conflicts."
Pire emphasized the role and stance of the PA member states in assisting Iraq, particularly the Kurdistan Region, in international and regional equations, where they have always supported the Kurdish people at different stages and helped and supported the Peshmerga forces in defeating the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group, particularly in enhancing human capacity and protecting human rights, and finally in the fight against terrorism through providing weapons and military advisors.
The PUK delegation also held several important meetings with representatives of international parties and organizations.
The Progressive Alliance is a global organization of the world's social democratic parties. It was founded in 2013 in Leipzig, Germany. The PUK is a founding member and Saadi Pire is a member of the Presidency Board of the organization.
