In a message of congratulations on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani, writes: "The holiday must serve as an inspiration for us to practice tolerance, reconciliation, and what we Kurds refer to as 'forgiveness'.
The complete statement of the Deputy Prime Minister: May all Muslims around the world, especially those in Kurdistan, have a joyous Eid al-Adha. Our thoughts are with the pilgrims as they safely return to their families after completing the Hajj (pilgrimage).
Islam is a religion and civilization in its own right, and one of the best features of Kurdish society, which has accepted this concept and path to a large extent, is its moderate and tolerant attitude toward other religions and ideologies. Unfortunately, in contrast to the historical religious tendency of our nation, recent news reports, incidents, and disasters have turned our attention to our society and told us that we must all work together to address the underlying issues.
The holiday must serve as an inspiration for us to practice tolerance, reconciliation, and what we Kurds refer to as 'forgiveness'.
Happy Eid to all of you, and may the pilgrims' Hajj be accepted and bring them more joy in the coming years.
