Qubad Talabani among environmental experts.
On Sunday, June 25, 2023, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with several environmental professionals and academics to discuss ways to address environmental threats.
Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani afterwards issued a comment on his official Facebook account, saying:
Just as devoted parents go to great lengths to create a bright future for their children and grandchildren, excellent governance considers the lives of future generations. A government that does not carry responsibility for future generations bears no responsibility for the lives of the generation over which it controls.
On the other hand, a healthy society does not disregard the needs of future generations.
Future generations, according to environmental studies, face a bleak future. This generation may be the last to prevent some environmental crises and their potentially disastrous consequences, both as a government and as a society.
If protecting the environment is not a top priority for a government, then it is not practicing good governance, and if a society is not environmentally conscious, then it is also not responsible and aware.
Today, I met with environmental experts and academics to discuss strategies for addressing environmental threats. In the coming days, we will hold larger expert-level meetings in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to make environmental issues a top priority in Iraqi and Kurdish policy.
In this regard, a larger conference will be held tomorrow with the participation of the Kurdistan Regional Government's ministries and relevant parties, as well as all consuls and diplomatic envoys in the region, to establish a comprehensive strategy with international cooperation and friendly nations.
