PUK President meets with Italian Consul General

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Michele Camerota, Italian Consul General in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, an Executive Board member of the Political Bureau, and Dr. Rebwar Ismail, a member of the Leadership Council, attended a meeting to discuss regional political developments. 

While discussing the issue of elections in the Kurdistan Region and the approval of the budget bill, President Bafel said: “The PUK is a force dedicated to upholding the foundations of democracy and conducting free elections, but only within the framework of legislation that is suitable, fair, and responsive to the situation and the desires of all parties.”

"All of our initiatives focus on equality and the elimination of discrimination, and while it did not meet all of the demands of the region, we now believe that the implementation of the law, as it is, provides the rights and entitlements of Kurds, and people's lives are no longer to be used for political warfare," President Bafel said of the Iraqi budget and efforts to achieve justice. 

Furthermore, President Bafel expressed his sympathies to the Consul and the people of Italy on the passing of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
