On Wednesday, Rafaat Abdullah, the Executive Decision-Maker of the PUK
Political Bureau, welcomed a delegation from UNAMI that included Lawrence Liu,
Senior Political Affairs Officer and Head of the Political Affairs Office in
Baghdad, and Lennart Nicolei, Head of Political Affairs in Erbil.
Abdullah welcomed the
visiting delegation to the meeting and commended the UN for helping to converge
the political parties in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Abdullah then gave the
attendees an explanation of the PUK's efforts in the adoption of the Iraqi
budget law, stating: "We urged on the acceptance of paragraph (8) to
Article (14), to fairly secure the rights and
financial entitlements of the Kurdish people."
He
continued by stating that if the money allocated in the Iraqi budget for the
Kurdistan Region is invested wisely, then prosperity will result, and the living
standards of citizens will rise.
In another
part of the meeting, Abdullah discussed the political environment in Iraq and
the Kurdistan Region, including the PUK's relationships with political parties.
He underlined that the PUK has consistently taken responsible, pragmatic action
in the public's best interest, preserving the region’s history and sustaining
peace and stability in politics, governance, and parliament.
For his part, Mr. Liu stated: "The UN views the political parties' unity as an essential element of the Kurdistan Region's power, unity, and peace."
