Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari and discussed the latest developments and coordination between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.
The meeting, which took place on the evening of June 8, 2023, in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah, highlighted the necessity of better security cooperation, particularly in the regions between the line of Iraqi security forces and the forces of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
They also discussed the coordination between the internal forces to arrest and exchange fugitives between the cities of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. Qubad Talabani said: "We are ready to provide any assistance, and criminals must not be allowed to escape the law and punishment anywhere in Iraq or the Region."
Then they discussed the strategy to stop the spread of drug usage and trafficking and end this phenomenon, which requires more coordination.
Furthermore, the discussion also covered the political situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and all parties agreed that it shouldn't lead to conflicts that the terrorists' sleeper cells may exploit and disturb the peace.
