Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received Swedish Ambassador to Iraq Jessica Svärdström in Erbil and discussed the internal situation in the Kurdistan Region and relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.
In the meeting held on Monday, June 5, 2023, both sides agreed that the political parties should learn from past conflicts and expedite problem resolution.
In this situation, Qubad Talabani said: "The political and economic situation in the Kurdistan Region is not good, so we all need to act responsibly to solve the problems and conflicts and protect the interests of the people."
The Deputy Prime Minister said that most of the problems come from personal and political differences. He said that this kind of conflict and strategy of partisan and personal arm-twisting will make the Kurds even more divided and harm the future of the Kurdistan Region.
Qubad Talabani said this about the upcoming parliamentary elections: "We have always supported holding elections on time, but we have always insisted that they be clear, free, and fair."
He called on the political parties to resume talks to facilitate the elections to be held soon and in the best way.
Concerning the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, the Deputy Prime Minister said that if Kurdistan's internal problems are solved, the Kurdistan Region's standing in Baghdad will improve.
