Message of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan on the 48th anniversary of its establishment and 47th anniversary of the new revolution
 
The following is the statement of the Political Bureau
 
Happy 48th anniversary to your PUK and 47th anniversary to the new revolution! May the foundation day pass with joy and happiness.
 
The PUK shattered the gloomy post-collapse scenario and brought our people the sun of hope.
 
Thousands of PUK members have died as martyrs throughout all these highs and lows. The PUK overcame significant odds, including the Anfal, chemical attacks, deportations, and Arabization, to bring its struggle to a historic high point in the liberation uprising. As a result, the first elections were held, the will and government of our people were shaped, and an experience was born that would come to symbolize the Kurdish dream and serve as a foundation for the overthrow of the Ba'ath dictatorship in 2003 and the liberation of all of Kurdistan.
 
The PUK fought alongside Kurdish and Iraqi forces for a long time to achieve a common goal and prove that democracy could work in Kurdistan. Therefore, President Mam Jalal, the new revolution's leader, was chosen as the first Kurdish president in Iraqi history. Despite setbacks in recent years and attempts to impose political penalties on our experience, the fighting spirit of the PUK and patriotism laid a solid foundation for the constitutional roadmap for the disputed areas, for consensus, and for balance in the federal republic. Even though there have been efforts to break down the consensus and partnership guiding principles, the testimony of both allies and opponents supports the PUK's role in the political process and as the center of decision-making in Baghdad. This position is crucial and should not be taken lightly. The PUK's involvement and input are vital to the success of any process in Iraq or Kurdistan.
 
A national will and a Kurdish perspective underpin this significant role, which is always, of course, for the benefit and solidarity of the Kurdish people.
 
Our honorable people, regarding organizational struggle and the measures of Peshmerga struggles, believe that the PUK revolution was a unique revolution for our nation. In this 48-year process, the PUK proudly celebrates our people's achievements over nearly five decades and 32 years of Kurdistan's rule.
 
Our leader, PUK President Mam Jalal, is commemorated at the graves of our martyrs.
 
Kurdish Individuals, The PUK has made significant progress, but more needs to be done.
 
It is more crucial than ever that we all do our part to unite our country, as did President Mam Jalal, especially in light of the current democratic crisis and constitutional vacuum. After three decades in power and the maturation of several new generations, the Kurdish people have achieved a true unity that will confront the highest interests of democracy and free and fair elections in our national institutions. For this reason, the PUK advocates for issues related to national unity and for free, fair, and transparent elections that fairly represent all segments of society.
 
Therefore, comrades, instead of just remembering our independence and bravery, this year's anniversary should be used to advance the objectives of the next stage of real reform, a chance for self-organization, and a chance for popular reconciliation, which, through their long-term goals (peace, democracy, human rights, and self-determination), are the foundation of the PUK's inherent strength. Let's declare the PUK anniversary a day of forgiveness to bring solace to the souls of our martyrs. Let's take this time to honor the service of our veterans and rally the next generation to get involved in shaping the world in which they will live.
 
The sequence of events has demonstrated that the PUK must continue to serve the people of Iraq and Kurdistan because the PUK is the main force behind the fight for Kurdistan's future.

May the martyrs' souls rest in peace.
Salutations to the Peshmergas, organizations, veteran prisoners, and numerous Kurdish town and village heroes who helped to construct this impressive structure of resistance.
