Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, received Mrs. Sophie, a member of the British royal family and the Duchess of Edinburgh, and discussed the latest developments together.
The meeting was held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in Erbil's Saad Abdullah Hall. The British Ambassador and Consul General were also present. Several different topics were discussed.
Mrs. Sophie's visit to the Kurdistan Region, where she is a prominent member of the British royal family, was deemed noteworthy by Qubad Talabani.
One of the subjects mentioned was the problem of women's rights and ending domestic violence. Qubad Talabani stressed that they are making progress in eradicating violence in the Kurdistan Region by collaborating with civil society organizations and relevant stakeholders.
"Our efforts are not only to eliminate domestic violence and violence against women but also to develop the capacity of youth and women to become more effective members of society," he stated.
They also discussed how critical it is for persons who have endured war and natural disasters to obtain mental care and how to use the UK's experience in this area.
Qubad Talabani appealed for assistance, citing a high demand in the Kurdistan Region.
